The 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landing in France has come and gone, but not forgotten. The successful landings that June day was due to a decision made by Dwight David Eisenhower an outstanding Allied Commander in World War II, destined one day to be the President of the United States. Eight years later he became the 35th American President, 1953-1961, and our greatest peacetime president. Ike has always been one of my most favored Republican office holders.
Not only was Ike a great military leader, Eisenhower steered the presidency exceptionally well in spite interference from several domestic and international crises. He mobilized the National Guards in Mississippi and Georgia to allow black children to safely attend segregated schools, a very unpopular political move in the South at the time, and as some of the older readers may remember, the Sputnik Scare and the Missile Gap?
