At this writing we have seen a brutal 51 day Israeli blitzkrieg-like siege of the Gaza Strip temporarily ended with a cease-fire. The toll in death and misery has been extensive for the people residing in such a small heavily populated area. As it stands 2,231 Gazans have been killed by bombs, bullets, and airstrikes, thousands more have been wounded, often critically. Most of the casulities have been innocent men, women, and children, along with perhaps 600 Hamas fighters.
The invasion of Gaza is a tragedy of unequal preportions: Israel lost 68 soldiers, three civilians, and one foreign worker, and so far claimed no significant property loss.
