Greetings Readers,
Yes, I saw Saving Private Ryan with Tom Hanks. No I did not see it with Tom Hanks. I mean Tom Hanks was in the excellent Speilberg movie that has become a classic film. At ten years old I do remember the excitement of D-day as it happened. We walked to school on that sunny morning and the whole day, and the next, we talked about nothing else. Kids said the American planes overhead were so thick you could hardly see the sky at all. Kids have great imaginations, don’t they?
Later I realized the strategic importance for the invasion and what it meant to the entire world and particularly the Soviet Union, the long-awaited second front. It pays dividends in later life to know history and remember it. On that one day the U. S. lost more brave soldiers than in ten years of Iraq II warfare.
What would life be under Hitler? For one thing, the he would have stopped after occupying England, and if fortunate Russia with all its resources and cheap labor. Invade Russia? Silly Adolf, he didn’t learn anything from Napoleon. An army can’t beat three Russian generals, General Distance, General Mud, and General Winter.
After a pause of a decade or so World War III would begin, The United States and the Americas at war against the Nazis. You may be frightened, concerned, but I would not be with a successful German takeover of the U. S. because, and you should not be neither, that is, if you have a non-Jewish German name and blue eyes like I do.
How about China? Hey, it would be in the 40’s, 1950s. China wasn’t poo-poo then
I see the beginnings of fascism in Trump or a replica of himself should he first become president. He or another dictator would then screw-up so badly those first few years, we would have a military coup to control the discontented and or another coup to divert domestic attention and to manufacture enemies we always seem to come up with to keep people occupied, entertained, or more likely in a state of constant fearfulness.
In the meantime with Hillary president it will be Wall Street and the military, industrial, and Congressional complex to keep the American mass on edge while the Street and Corporations set-up their rigged money-making rules we all have to live by, but in reality they don’t. But folks, don’t worry about America. America is great, Super Great, and will remain on top for at least another decade or so despite guys like Donald Trump and his entourage.
Under an unstable Trump you may at times worry about a nuclear holocaust? Well, no not me, because I live in the southern hemisphere. (Well, maybe Nuclear Winter?)
All the Best.
Ron
