Greetings Readers,
It is apparent at this point President Donald Trump has accomplished a significant achievement to be shared with Kim Jong Un by merely agreeing to meet this year to discuss tensions between the U. S., South Korea, and North Korea that have plagued the crisis redden peninsula for more than a year. Both leaders have appear to have won with Trump getting the lion’s share of the credit for his bold efforts. I looks to be we are finally on the road, perhaps bumpy, in silencing threatening war drums.
The North is set to reduce its nuclear program and missile launches if allowed according to it own words. This offer places the ball squarely in Trump’s court, so will the president curtail the joint military drills with the South and give peace a chance? Quite probably he will over the next months as Trump will test Kim’s offer and proves his sincerity.
Another diplomatic victory like this one and Trump will be a shoo–in for the 2022 election and the next Nobel Peace Prize candidate. We’ll just have to wait and see.
As I wrote last year the sane approach would to hold a face to face meeting in Hawaii to resolve this crucial stand-off which affects the entire safety of the world. It appears Kim blinked first. The stringent sanction with the helpful assistance of China could well have been the turning point. The talks could be held in Seoul, but most likely on the DMZ. In the meantime both parties cool their heels until May.
All the Best to you.
